If this exact story happened in your town would you be shocked as well. She explains what happened to this kid and his family.
The stories point of view is from a ninth grader Phillip Malloy, who is the main character. During the book, Phillip gets into some trouble with his school administration and what happens is for you to read.
The book Nothing But the Truth is a great book for young readers (such as myself) to read. The story line of the book tells you a day in the life of a high school student, and it puts you into Harrison High School and how a little problem turned into a nation wide crises.Throughout the book Avi, the author, explains how much a problem at a local no name high school became a worldwide story from newspapers to television.
The story explains what a high school is like for kids and tells you how this kid got into trouble for nothing. If you are an adult, and you have a young child around the ages of 10 to 14, then I strongly recommend you buy it or them.
What happened to everyone at that school and community was shocked and was amazed about how a school could do something like this, and how big this story spread. The story is very good and is well said, and if I was a parent with a young boy or girl I would this book for them in a heartbeat.
I do not think parents would really enjoy this book. He loved sports, and was a very smart kid. The last thing parents want to hear about is a suspension, so reading am entire book about suspensions would not be a smart idea. Even though it begins like this, I still recommend reading it.
As a tenth grader, I believed the theme of the book pertained directly to me, so I knew it would be a great book to read. I first picked up the novel and read the summary on the back. One day, he got switched to a class with a teacher he did not really care for. Being a teenager myself, I know exactly what he was thinking.
Avi has written it as a story told by dialogue. After a couple of pages in, I could not put the book down.Phillip is an everyday teenager who stands up for his rights and what he believes in. In the morning, he hummed to the beat of the national anthem while it was playing on the announcements and suspension fell upon him. Argument broke out between the students, family, and school. Author Avi truly shows the strong beliefs of an average teenage kid in the wonderful novel Nothing but the Truth.
We know the rules, and adults try to change them, but teens do not want to allow of that. I really connected with Phillip throughout the book, as he taught many lessons about standing for our rights and freedoms. The book was great, but it was slightly hard to follow. Every couple of pages it switches to a new conversation and new characters. At the beginning of the book, it is hard to catch on and follow. As a strong believer in the freedoms, I take part on Phillip's side as he tries to make his point throughout the book. Initially, Phillip, the main character, seemed to be a kid pretty much just like I am. All high school students should enjoy this book because we all have these situations in life.
This is very appealing because I love the way Phillip stands up for his rights. I love how he still hums, even though he is told to stop. I also think teachers would enjoy this, because they are able to see how the student thinks and reacts to a teacher's decision. Overall, Nothing but the Truth was a wonderful read.

Nothing but the TruthIn the book Nothing but the Truth, I really enjoyed the use of different genres in the book. I expected that the main character would have kept trying to improve his grades and qualify for the track team instead of quitting and going to a new school.Since the main idea was not the best, the ending could've been better if it was totally different. The genres made the book much easier to understand what is going on at the time.Although the use of multiple genres made the book more interesting and real, I didn't really enjoy the book.
Like the letters, phone conversations, memos etc. I felt like the author just made a random ending of the book that made the book uninteresting.I find the idea of the main character, Philip Malloy, getting suspended for singing the national anthem not the best. It made the book more interesting to read. The many different genres that the author used are very interesting.
Especially, the main idea and the way the book ended. The genres helped bring the story to life in a unique way. For example the phone conversations made a picture in my head about the characters actually talking on the phone.
The ending of the book also could've been better. The author could've just made the book longer with a little more details about the effort by the main character to be on the track team.
Avi uses documentaries of different events to make this book different from any other book. It starts out talking about the conversation between Margaret Narwin and Mr. Avi uses great expression throughout that whole book leaving the reader diving in for more. I also liked how Avi left the reader thing about what was going to happen next after each chapter. Nothing But The Truth was a great book by Avi. The novel could have described each genre a little more and maybe what happened when Ted Griffen got elected to the school board. It shows Philip Malloy's shouts and Miss Narwin's letter about what is happening in her life.Something that I didn't like in the book was that the topics quickly changed. The author is very creative and does not incorporate a bias towards a certain side.
Louis and then to the Harrison School Elections chart and then back to the conversation between Margaret Narwin and Robert Duval. It shows Philip's desire to get Miss Narwin angry. I really liked the way Avi used different types of genres to express viewpoints from different characters. Duval the reporter from St. Adding on to that, the viewpoints were greatly expressed through Philip Malloy's diary entry, Miss Narwin's letter to her sister, Anita and the memos of Harrison High School. Even though the author didn't describe in details about the setting, you could see the vivid setting like a movie that is going through your head because of his exceptional use of the different genres. This all happened within two pages of the book. All in all, this book was really good.
